About Us

Voluntary Peer Mentors

The Positive Peers team is comprised of individuals living with HIV who receive their HIV care and treatment in Birmingham and the wider West Midlands area.

As trained Peer Mentors, we have personally experienced similar concerns and fears, so we understand what you're going through.

Although we may not be medically trained, we can offer advice and support on a range of topics, including:

  • Understanding, and coming to terms with, your diagnosis

  • Sharing your diagnosis and status with others

  • Understanding the virus and your treatment options

  • Advocating for your rights and care

  • And many more...

Our team covers a wide range of ages, genders, sexualities, ethnicities and backgrounds.

Receiving an HIV diagnosis can be daunting and frightening, but you don't have to deal with it alone.

Positive Peers becomes part of
the Saving Lives UK family

In 2024, Positive Peers officially became part of the Saving Lives UK family. This means that Positive Peers can now benefit from the guidance, governance, and support with administrative and financial matters provided by Saving Lives UK.

Saving Lives is a UK-based charity registered with the Charity Commission (number 1144855) that exists to combat stigma and promote testing for HIV, Hepatitis B and C and other Sexually Transmitted Infections.

The core Saving Lives team is based in Birmingham,
but our activities have spread across the UK.

We work in partnership with local NHS organisations to deliver eye-catching, fresh and innovative health promotion campaigns that focus on encouraging people to think again about HIV and other related conditions.
